Creating Shared Value for Nestlé Employees

Nestlé understands that the lifeblood of any company is found within its employees. Employee satisfaction is enhanced by providing opportunities to gain new skills, achieve promotion and receive competitive salary packages in an environment where individuals are valued and respected.

Nestlé operates in over 100 countries, providing employment for some 283 000 people. Around half of these employees work in developing countries, with a high proportion employed in their country of origin. All Nestlé employees aspire towards a common set of principles found within the Nestlé Corporate Business Principles. These principles include the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact, asking companies to embrace, support and enact, within their sphere of influence, a set of core values in the areas of human rights, labour standards and the environment. Other relevant International Labour Organisation conventions are also included within the Nestlé Corporate Business Principles.

At all Nestlé sites, Occupational Health and Safety is of paramount importance, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for each employee. Working hours, wages and overtime pay comply with applicable local laws and are competitive against those offered by similar businesses. Nestlé respects the right of employees to form representative organisations and to join – or not to join – trade unions. The company does not provide employment to children before they have reached the age to have completed their compulsory education, as defined by the appropriate authorities, and forbids the use of forced labour or involuntary prison labour.
