Infant Formula
"Mother’s milk will always be the best and most natural food for a baby during its first months and every mother who is able to ought to breast-feed her child."
Back in 1867, the founder of the company, Henri Nestlé, made it quite clear that breast-feeding was the best food for infants.
Still, breastfeeding and the infant formula business is a very important concern for Nestlé. Discussions about the marketing of infant formula in developing countries date back to the 1960s and 70s before the adoption of the WHO Code, to which Nestlé adheres. The Code provides guidelines for the marketing of infant formula. Nestlé makes sure that every country adheres to the Code by conducting regular internal reviews and following up any complaints. All necessary steps are taken immediately if there is any indication that the Code has been violated. The CEO of the international division of Nestlé personally studies all reports and ensures that any necessary measures are implemented.
